Assistant Professorship (m_f) - Tenure Track

The Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology of the TU Wien invites applications at the Institute for Microelectronics for a tenure-track Associate Professor position with a qualification agreement in the area of Robust Microelectroncis in the form of an initially fixed-term (6 years) full-time tenure track position starting from September 1st, 2021 with the possibility of promotion to a permanent position as Associate Professor after a positive tenure evaluation.

The successful candidate is expected to establish or continue her/his own research group and initiate independent, innovative research programs for the development of advanced concepts and theoretical and experimental methods for robust microelectronics. The methods to be developed are expected to treat modern and future topics for device and circuit simulation for robust microelectronic applications, but also the development of highly advanced experimental methods and measurement instruments (hardware and software) for the characterization of devices and circuits.

Additionally, this position requires teaching duties for the bachelor’s program Electrical Engineering and Information Technology as well as the Master’s program Microelectronics and Photonics.


Continuing personal and professional education and flexible working hoursActual work on one or more of these topics:
  • Ultra-high resolution and fully automated electrical measurement methods
  • Characterization of the robustness of devices employing various material systems
  • Development of measurement equipment as well as conceptual design of experimental setups for microelectronics
  • Low-temperature electronics as well as novel material systems for microelectronic devices
  • Efficient numerical methods for the compact description of complex physical models for industrial use
  • Research, simulation, and characterization of devices and circuits for robust microelectronic applications
  • Development of physical simulation models and novel simulation approaches for microelectronic devices and circuits
  • Publications in renowned journals and conferences
  • Demonstrated acquisition of a significant amount of third-party funding

Your profile:

The successful candidate for this position is expected to be an internationally recognized scientist with a doctoral degree and with several years of accumulated competence in the area of robust microelectronics. Her/his publication portfolio should show that a habilitation (if not already present) can be achieved in the next years.

Furthermore, the following requirements should already be fulfilled:
  • Excellent international academic track record and well established international collaboration with universities, research institutes, and the semiconductor industry
  • Experience in running a research group and, as a result, proven social and gender competence
  • Experience in the academic teaching of courses in the field and supervising of students at multiple levels of education
  • Experience in the organization of relevant scientific conferences
  • Experience in reviewing scientific journals and relevant scientific conferences
  • Unless sufficient knowledge of German is available, the willingness to learn the German language soon is required, which makes it possible to teach in bachelor's programs and to work in the management of the institute and the faculty as well as in university committees

The employment starts as University Assistant with a minimum salary of EUR 3,945.90 gross (14 x per year) according to the collective bargaining agreement for a PostDoc. After signing the qualification agreement, the employment continues as Assistant Professor with a minimum salary of EUR 4,666.30 gross (14 x per year).
