At the Institute of Information Systems Engineering in the research area Data Science (E194-04) TU Wien is offering a position as student employee (all genders) in research and administration for 20 hours/week (starting from 15 hours per week possible). Expected start: January 2026. This position is limited to expected 1 year, but no longer than the completion of a master's or diploma degree.

This position is one of two student positions within the fuTUre fit project “KI Assistant (TUna) – Study & Teaching Companion”. The TUna project develops an AI-based study and teaching companion for students and teachers at TU Wien that integrates multiple university information systems into a single, chat-based assistant.

Tasks:

  • Collaboration in the preparation and implementation of the project ‘AI Assistant (TUna) – Study & Teaching Companion’
  • Support with the implementation of the personalisation component, interface development, integration of heterogeneous data sources, testing, quality assurance and project documentation
  • Collaboration in organisational and administrative activities
  • Support in the application of current state-of-the-art methods in the field of generative AI for the implementation and evaluation of a RAG-based AI assistant (tooling, MCP, heterogeneous data sources, etc.)
  • Collaboration on technical and methodological concepts in the field of data science and AI
  • Support of the research team in ongoing research, development and project tasks

Your profile:

  • Enrolment in a relevant degree programme at the Faculty of Informatics (preferably enrollment in a Master's programm in the field of Data Science, Software Engineering or Business Informatics)
  • No completed Master's or Diploma degree in the field
  • Sound programming skills, preferably in Python, as well as experience in data processing and analysis
  • Knowledge of DevOps and system administration is an advantage
  • An existing software project portfolio is an advantage (e.g. experience with MCP, RAG, LLM agents)

Entry level salary is determined by the pay grade C of the Austrian collective agreement for university staff. This is a minimum of currently EUR 1,349.60/month gross, 14 times/year for 20 hours/week.
