University Assistant Prae-Doc (all genders)

30 hours/week | limited to 1 year, with an extension to 4 years upon positive evaluation ( max. 4 years in total)

The Atomic and Subatomic Physics at TU Wien is offering a position as university assistant (prae-doc) with 30 hours/week. The position is first limited to 1 year. After a positive evaluation the position is extended to expected 4 years in total.

Tasks:

  • Design and simulation of plasmonic substrates
  • Design and simulation of nanophotonic waveguides and cavities
  • Implementation of an optical setup for testing nanophotonic devices
  • Setting up of a confocal microscope for the detection of nanoparticles and quantum emitters
  • Development of novel detection methods for nanoplastics
  • Statistical analysis of experimental data
  • Assistance with teaching tasks
  • Cooperation and guidance of students
  • Writing a dissertation and publications
  • Participation in scientific events
  • Assistance/Collaboration in organizational and administrative tasks

Your profile:

  • Completion of a master or diploma curriculum in Technical Physics, Mechatronics or similar
  • Background in simulations of complex optical components such as metasurfaces
  • Good knowledge of electronics
  • Good knowledge of programming
  • Experience in the design of optical setups and optomechanical components
  • Experience in teaching, in particular supervision of lab projects for students (not required)
  • Experience in scientific procedures
  • Very good communicative skills, team competence and innovative ability

Entry level salary is determined by the pay grade B1 of the Austrian collective agreement for university staff. This is a minimum of currently EUR 2,786.10/month gross, 14 times/year for 30 hours/week. Relevant working experiences may increase the monthly income.
