Announcement of an Opening at the Institute for Theoretical Physics, Faculty of Physics at Technische Universität Wien (Vienna University of Technology) for an Assistant Professorship (Tenure Track) Gravity and Holography in form of an initially fixed-term (6 years) tenure track full-time position starting from expected June 1, 2026. The candidate and TU Wien can agree on a tenure evaluation. When positive, the position is changed to an Associate Professor with an unlimited contract.

 

The Faculty of Physics invites applications for an Assistant Professorship (tenure track) in Gravity and Holography with focus on applications of the holographic principle to black hole physics and flat space holography. Synergies with as well as complementarity to ongoing theoretical research activities at the Institute for Theoretical Physics of the TU Wien (www.itp.tuwien.ac.at), with related scientific groups of other faculties of the TU Wien and of other universities in Vienna are expected. We are looking for candidates who have demonstrated an active role in international theoretical physics collaborations.

Tasks:

  • Theoretical research in Gravity and Holography with focus on applications of the holographic principle to black hole physics and flat space holography
  • Writing and publishing of scientific articles
  • Participation in research and project activities
  • Participation in scientific events
  • Participation in teaching activities and exams, as well as supervision of Bachelor, Master and PhD students
  • Participation in organizational and administrative tasks

Your profile:

  • The successful candidate is expected to be an internationally recognized scientist with a PhD in theoretical physics and an excellent track record, as documented by scientific contributions published in high-ranking international journals
  • We furthermore expect the candidate to have expertise in successful funding activities within highly competitive funding programs (such as the ERC- or the ASTRA-programme)
  • An adequate contribution to teaching and mentoring activities within the Faculty of Physics is expected
  • We expect the candidate to have experience in student supervision on the bachelor or master level
  • We expect the candidate to have demonstrated outreach experience, such as delivering talks to high-school students

The employment starts as University Assistant with a minimum salary of EUR 5,014.30 gross (14 x per year) according to the collective bargaining agreement for a PostDoc. After signing the qualification agreement, the employment continues as Assistant Professor with a minimum salary of EUR 5,904.00 gross (14 x per year).
