At the Institute of Architectural Sciences, in the Research Unit of Architecture Theory and Philosophy of Technics TU Wien is offering a position as senior scientist (all genders) limitedto expected 6 years for 40 hours/week, with an option for permanent employment (after evaluation on the basis of a target agreement). Expected start: May 2026.
Tasks:
- Research activities in the field of architecture theory with a natural philosophy approach and focus on architectonics: treatise tradition, mathematical, philological and theological aspects therein, logical and metaphysical systems of thought
- Independent teaching at the bachelor’s, master’s, and PhD level
- Contribution to the conceptual development of theory curricula across the faculty’s study programs: Bachelor seminars, in-depth teaching at the master's level including thesis supervision, doctoral seminars and lecture series
- Organization of academic events (international conferences, symposia, lecture series)
- Publishing activities: editing and copy-editing work, authorship
- Support and responsible supervision of organisational and administrative tasks
Your profile:
- Completion of a relevant doctoral degree
- Interest in a Habilitation thesis that is consistent with the above-mentioned focus of research activities is desirable
- Knowledge of and experience in scientific work and expertise in publishing and communication in architecture as a cross-disciplinary and academic culture (conferences, journal articles, book chapters and monographs, edited volumes); overall interest in a philological culture of editorship
- Experience in research funding and promotion in architecture as a transdisciplinary and academic culture (collaborations with national and international universities and cultural institutions)
- Broad knowledge and research experience in architecture and architecture theory, with an interest in architectonics, philosophy of technics, AI and coding literacy, and information theory that manifests in an active and collaborative network of peers, international collaborations, and in scholarly publications
- Experience in responsible teaching (autonomous scholarship, architecture criticism).
- A background in architecture as practice (studio work) is highly welcome
- Organisational and analytical skills and a structured approach to work, good knowledge of university structures and familiarity with administrative processes
- Interest and enjoyment of academic and artistic research and work with students
- Ability to work in a team, open, curious and communicative personality
- Collegiality, reliability and a constructive, solution-oriented working style
- Fluency in several languages is highly welcome, but good knowledge of at least German and English (C1) is essential; knowledge of classical languages (Greek and Latin) is welcome

Entry level salary is determined by the pay grade B1 of the Austrian collective agreement for university staff. This is a minimum of currently EUR 5,014.30/month gross, 14 times/year for 40 hours/week. Relevant working experiences may increase the monthly income.
