The Service Unit of Research Information Systems in cooperation with the Research Unit of Databases and Artificial Intelligence, Institute of Logic and Computation, is offering a position as Student Employee (all genders) in research and administration for 20 hours/week. Expected start: April 2026. This position is expected to be limited until 30.09.2026, but no longer than the completion of a master's or diploma degree. This position is offered within the project "Weiterentwicklung der TU Wien Forschungsmatrix zu Research Spheres."
TU Wien is improving its ability to leverage data for insights into institutional performance and to compare its research contributions in a global context. This involves combining data from TU Wien’s reposiTUm, external data and metadata, as well as full-text information, with data from platforms such as Scopus, CORE, and OpenAlex, and internal databases and knowledge graphs of people and research projects.
The development work will include interaction with leading reasoners and knowledge graphs management systems, including a Large Language Model component for information extraction and reasoning over full-text. The project will allow the candidate to join a dynamic network of researchers internationally active in the space of Knowledge Graphs.
It is possible to carry out research toward a Master’s thesis and prospective publications of the results as part of this employment.
Tasks:
The successful candidate will contribute to this process in a supporting capacity by carrying out the following tasks:
- Support the engineering and integration of advanced AI software components
- Contribute to the design and development of various data wrangling phases (e.g., cleaning, integration) to help harmonize different data sources
- Assist in interlinking TU Wien’s data sources with online platforms to identify research trends and enable comparative analyses
- Support navigation and information extraction from knowledge graphs
- Support the construction of scientific prototypes and proofs-of-concept to help demonstrate successful approaches
- Provide regular input to consultations and assist in the preparation and presentation of results to stakeholders
Your profile:
Essential
- Enrolled in a relevant study program in the field of Informatics, Business Informatics or Data Science; No completed Master- or Diplom Study in these fields
- Very good programming knowledge
- Familiarity with APIs, data pipelines and data integration workflow and with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
- Understanding of data orchestration tools and kowledge graphs and graph databases
- Strong analytical and debugging skills
- Team- and communication skills and precise work
Desirable
- Experience with cloud or university computing infrastructure and in similar data science projects
- Familiarity with data governance and reproducible research workflows

Entry level salary is determined by the pay grade C of the Austrian collective agreement for university staff. This is a minimum of currently EUR 1,379.60/month gross, 14 times/year for 20 hours/week.
