At the Institute of Spatial Planning, in the Research Unit of Urban and Regional Research, TU Wien is offering a position as university assistant (prae-doc) for 20 hours/week, limited until December 31st 2028, that includes the following responsibilites.
Tasks:
- You will substantially assist in setting up the Research School “Transformations”, a support program for doctoral students at the Faculty of Architecture and Spatial Planning. This implies (i) contributing to the design of specific formats for doctoral students (e.g., international colloquia, writing retreats, courses), (ii) providing organizational support for the implementation of these formats (e.g., scheduling, invitation management, communication with participants), and (iii) internal communication (coordination and information for internal and external participants, preparation of presentation materials) and external communication (website and social media posts, or similar).
- You will collaborate on ongoing research projects on urban and regional sustainability transformation (e.g., in the areas of transformative governance, transformation conflicts, regional future processes), as well as on the acquisition of future projects in this field.
- You will write your dissertation in a field related to these tasks and topics, thereby deepening your scientific knowledge and qualifications.
Your profile:
- Master's or diploma degree in spatial planning, architecture, geography, or urban studies (or a comparable degree)
- Knowledge of topics related to urban or regional sustainability transformation (e.g., energy and mobility transition, circular economy, industrial transition, circular construction, transformation of existing building stock, or similar)
- Knowledge of relevant empirical methods (e.g., regional analysis, governance analysis, methods of empirical social research, transdisciplinary research methods, or similar)
- Initial experience in project and event management, ideally in a university context (e.g., courses, scientific discussion formats)
- Excellent German and English language skills
- Motivation and creativity in designing new exchange and communication formats
- Interest in academic work, especially independent research and publication in an international context
- Organizational skills, reliability, and strong teamwork skills

Entry level salary is determined by the pay grade B1 of the Austrian collective agreement for university staff. This is a minimum of currently EUR 1,857.40/month gross, 14 times/year for 20 hours/week. Relevant working experiences may increase the monthly income.
