University Assistant Post-Doc (all genders)

40 hours/week | limited to 6 years

At the Institute of Materials Chemistry, in the Research Group for Model Catalysis and Applied Catalysis, TU Wien is offering a position as university assistant (post-doc)limited to expected 6 years for 40 hours/week. Expected start: December 2025.

Tasks:

  • Heterogeneous Catalysis at the interface of applied and fundamental research
  • Deep interest in solving fundamental scientific problems and motivation for independent and goal-oriented research
  • The ability to develop concepts, methods and research equipment, as well as their realization and evaluation
  • Dissemination of research outcomes by journal publications and participation at conferences, workshops and other scientific events
  • Initiation and participation in interdisciplinary collaborative research within the faculty as well as on a national and international level. Co-organization of workshops and conferences
  • Independent teaching or participation in teaching and supervision of students, collaboration at exams
  • Participation in organizational and administrative tasks of the research division and the institute

Your profile:

  • Completion of a relevant doctorate and in-depth knowledge of the subject area (physical chemistry, surface science, materials science)
  • Interdisciplinary work; Extensive research experience in an international environment in both applied catalysis and UHV-based model catalysis
  • Strong research background in synthesis/kinetics of mixed oxides, in particular defect engineering and corresponding methods for defect characterization, as well as metal-oxide interfaces
  • Hands-on experience with operando characterization at synchrotron light sources (AP-XPS, XAS) and Raman spectroscopy, including the application for and coordination of beamtime-proposals
  • Well-developed publication record
  • Experience in project acquisition and project management
  • Experience in teaching and/or supervision of students, ideally experience in mentoring young scientists
  • Communication skills and team competences
  • Command of the English language on C1 niveau, knowledge of German is an advantage.

Entry level salary is determined by the pay grade B1 of the Austrian collective agreement for university staff. This is a minimum of currently EUR 4,932.90/month gross, 14 times/year for 40 hours/week. Relevant working experiences may increase the monthly income.
