Senior Scientist (all genders)

40 hours/week | limited with the option for permanent employment

At the Institute of Spatial Planning, in the Research Unit of Public Finance and Infrastructure Policy, TU Wien is offering a position as senior scientist (all genders) limited until September 30th, 2028 with the option for permanent employment for 40 hours/week. Expected start: December 2025.

Tasks:

  • Research activities in at least two of the following research areas
  • Public finance, in particular public finances/budgets, public sector revenue and expenditure, asset and financing accounting, fiscal equalization
  • Infrastructure economics, e.g., (fiscal) impact analyses in the broadest sense
  • Spatial inequality and distribution issues (e.g., income, accessibility)
  • Continuation and further development of databases and modeling/simulation systems (e.g., public budgets, fiscal equalization) and exchange with other relevant research areas at TU Wien (e.g., with the Department of Economics and the Department of Finance and Controlling, etc.)
  • Maintenance and further development of databases and modeling/simulation systems (e.g., public budgets, fiscal equalization)
  • Teaching—including lectures and seminars (bachelor's, master's) as well as student project work and assistance with examinations
  • Project work and management of project groups/working groups
  • Scientific publication activities
  • Participation in and organization of scientific events
  • Supervision of students
  • Collaboration in organizational and administrative tasks (especially IT management) and evaluation measures

Your profile:

  • Completion of a relevant doctorate in economics and social sciences, proven qualifications in socio-economics, statistical and spatial analysis, and databases
  • Sound knowledge of scientific work, proven by scientific publications
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Austrian data availability
  • Statistical-econometric methodological expertise, including spatial econometrics; knowledge of statistical modeling software and platforms
  • Practical research experience with Austrian databases and access (e.g., Statistics Austria, AMDC, register data)
  • Interdisciplinary work
  • Experience in teaching and publication activities as well as interest and pleasure in research and work/support with students
  • Organisational and analytical skills as well as a structured way of working
  • Excellent knowledge of German (language of instruction), very good knowledge of English

Entry level salary is determined by the pay grade B1 of the Austrian collective agreement for university staff. This is a minimum of currently EUR 4,932.90/month gross, 14 times/year for 40 hours/week. Relevant working experiences may increase the monthly income.
