University Assistant Prae-Doc (all genders)

30 hours/week | limited to 4 years

TU Wien is Austria's largest institution of research and higher education in the fields of technology and natural sciences. With over 26,000 students and more than 4000 scientists, research, teaching, and learning dedicated to the advancement of science and technology have been conducted here for more than 200 years, guided by the motto "Technology for People". As a driver of innovation, TU Wien fosters close collaboration with business and industry and contributes to the prosperity of society.
The Institute of Materials Technology, Building Physics and Building Ecology has a vacancy for a University Assistant (Prae-Doc) for 30 hours per week from January 2025, limited to expected for 4 years.

This interdisciplinary research project in the field of building materials science and materials technology deals with the flow and sedimentation behavior of multidisperse suspensions as a model for cementitious materials.
It has been observed that cement sheared in a rheometer exhibits shear localization that occurs rapidly after the start of shear, and the system may never fluidize due to the increasing interactive forces associated with the precipitation of highly charged nanohydration products [1].
Shear localization has also been linked to shear-induced migration of particles and sedimentation, both processes that depend on particle size and the solid volume fraction of particles in suspension [2].
In this project, the behavior of model suspensions is investigated and compared with the behavior of cementitious slurries, focusing on the influence of the particle size aspect (bi-disperse suspensions) and on the influence of solids volume fraction and particle packing.
