Electrified Interfaces

At the Institute of Applied Physics, in the Research Unit of Applied Interface Physics,  TU Wien is offering the following tenure track position for 40 hours/week. Expected start: Earliest in 10/2024.
 
The post is provisionally fixed term for six years and will be converted into a permanent associate professorship subject to positive tenure evaluation according to a standardized process (tenure track with qualification agreement). The tenure-track position is affiliated with the Institute of Applied Physics. Duties include research in the field of Electrified Interfaces and teaching in all areas of physics. The applicant’s scientific profile should complement on-going research activities at TU Wien in the context of the recently established “Materials for Energy Conversion and Storage” cluster of excellence (CoE).

In particular we are interested in candidates who work in the areas of (1) electrocatalytic CO2 reduction or electrocatalytic conversion of low-molecular carbon to value-added products, (2) fundamentals of hydrogen/oxygen evolution, (3) development of catalysts for the mentioned processes, or (4) photo-electrocatalytic processes at semi-conductor/liquid interfaces and application of novel techniques to these processes.
 

Tasks:

Research:
  • Developing a strong program in experimental aspects of the above-mentioned areas and fields of interest
  • Resolving questions at solid interfaces of relevance to photo and/or electrocatalysis
  • Collaborating with other experimentalist and theorists working in this area, and in particular in the cluster of excellence MECS
  • Supervising students research at all levels
  • Administrative responsibilities within the institute.

Teaching:
  • The successful candidate will teach in classes and lab courses of the Bachelor and Master curricula of the faculty of physics

Your profile:

  • University Master and Doctoral degree or equivalent and proficiency in English
  • We expect the successful candidate to be a rising star in one of the areas mentioned above.
  • A high-quality publication record and evidence of standing in the academic community is required.
  • Prior successful acquisition of competitive 3rd party funding is an advantage.
  • Experience in academic teaching (classes and lab courses) and supervising or co-supervising of academic theses
  • International research experience, ideally at the post-doctoral level

The employment starts as University Assistant with a minimum salary of EUR 4,752.30 gross (14 x per year) according to the collective bargaining agreement for a PostDoc. After signing the qualification agreement, the employment continues as Assistant Professor with a minimum salary of EUR 5,595.60 gross (14 x per year).
