Female University Assistant (Prae-Doc)

30 hours/week | limited to 3 years

At the Institute of Production Engineering and Photonic Technologies, in the Research Group for Process Simulation TU Wien is offering a position as university assistant (prae-doc) limited to 3 years for 30 hours/week. Expected start: August 2024. In case of suitable professional qualifications, the extent of employment can be increased to 40 hours per week from third-party funds of the Institute.

Tasks:

  • Research and project activity in the field of simulation of laser-material processing within the project "Laser meets Synchrotron" (https://laser-meets-synchrotron.de/) and within cooperations with renowned companies
  • (Co-)Supervision of BSc. and MSc. students
  • Writing a dissertation and publications
  • Participation in scientific events
  • Assistance/Collaboration in organizational and administrative tasks

Your profile:

  • Completion of a master or diploma curriculum in Industrial or Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Computational Science and Engineering, or a similar field
  • Excellent knowledge of English
  • First experience with object-oriented programming (e.g., C++), numerical methods or OpenFOAM is advantageous, but not strictly required
  • German communication skills are advantageous
  • Interest in simulation methods and laser-material processing
  • Ability to work in a team, to solve problems, and willingness to learn new concepts

Entry level salary is determined by the pay grade B1 of the Austrian collective agreement for university staff. This is a minimum of currently EUR 1,789.40/month gross, 14 times/year for 20 hours/week. Relevant working experiences may increase the monthly income.
