University Assistant (Prae-Doc)

30 hours/week | limited to 4 years

At the Institute of Statistics and Mathematical Methods in Economics, in the Research Unit of Probability, TU Wien is offering a position as university assistant (prae-doc) limited to expected 4 years for 30 hours/week. Expected start: May 2024 (or later).

Tasks:

  • Conduct doctoral level research in the field of probability (in particular, discrete probability/probabilistic combinatorics/random graphs)
  • Publish research results in peer-reviewed journals and write a PhD dissertation in mathematics
  • Tutoring of students, collaboration in the research unit's teaching and organizational tasks
  • Participate in scientific events (conferences, workshops, summer schools, etc.)

Your profile:

  • Completion of a master curriculum in mathematics
  • Strong motivation to do research
  • Strong background in probability and/or discrete mathematics
  • Fluency in English; Knowledge of German will be highly appreciated

Entry level salary is determined by the pay grade B1 of the Austrian collective agreement for university staff. This is a minimum of currently EUR 2,684.10/month gross, 14 times/year for 30 hours/week. Relevant working experiences may increase the monthly income.
