Machine Elements and Transmissions

At the Institute of Engineering Design and Product Development, the Research Unit of Machine Elements and Transmissions for Aviation is offering the following tenure track position for 40 hours/week. Expected start: October 2021.

The candidate and TU Wien agree upon a tenure evaluation, which when positively evaluated, opens the possibility to change the position to Associate Professor with an unlimited contract.

The tenure-track position is affiliated to the Institute of Engineering Design and Product Development. Duties include research and teaching in the field of Machine Elements and Transmissions for Aviation. The focus of research should be on the Transmissions especially in the area of Transmissions for Aviation (Rotorcraft including alternative power sources and Engines).


  • Machine Elements and Transmissions, especially Transmissions for Aviation (Rotorcraft, Engines)
  • Support of the Head of the Research unit in administration of teaching and research

  • The successful candidate will teach in classes and lab courses in Machine Elements and Transmissions (Bachelor and Master curricula). It is emphasized that currently the teaching in the Bachelor curriculum is in German language requiring appropriate language skills

Your profile:

  • University Master and Doctoral degree or equivalent and proficiency in German (certified GER level C1) and English
  • Proven long-term expertise in the field of Machine Elements and Transmissions
  • Outstanding achievements and potential in research, excellent publication record, international reputation in the German and English speaking drive train technology and its research organisations.
  • Experience in academic teaching (classes and lab courses) and supervising or co-supervising of academic theses
  • Experience in designing and participating in research projects, as well as the willingness and ability to lead research groups, willingness to acquire third-party funding
  • Scientific activity outside TU Wien, preferentially outside Austria
  • Ideally, the prospective position holder has social and gender competence or experience in the promotion of young researchers and the advancement of female students/colleagues/employees

The employment starts as University Assistant with a minimum salary of EUR 3,945.90 gross (14 x per year) according to the collective bargaining agreement for a PostDoc. After signing the qualification agreement, the employment continues as Assistant Professor with a minimum salary of EUR 4,666.30 gross (14 x per year).
